According to news sources, a three-vehicle collision took place Monday on Highway 101 when a man suspected of drinking and driving collided head-on with a vehicle traveling in opposing traffic. The man was later arrested and subsequently released based on medical needs due to injuries sustained in the crash.
The 41-year-old man was traveling northbound when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and sent it veering off the roadway, drifting onto the opposing southbound lanes. Another vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old teenager, collided with the mans vehicle head-on and caused one of the wheels of the mans vehicle to break off and strike another vehicle on the roadway.
The third vehicle was being driven by a 24-year-old Eureka woman. The teenager and the Eureka woman were both reportedly uninjured in the accident.
The man sustained major injuries as a result of the accident and was subsequently transported to Mad River Community Hospital for treatment. The man will face misdemeanor DUI charges upon his release from hospital care.
